Industry Achievers: Matt Wallace

A conversation with Matt Wallace

Matt Wallace is the Founder and CEO of AutoMind, an AI-driven vehicle diagnostics platform built to make car fault codes simple, transparent, and actionable for everyday drivers. With a background in sales and marketing, Matt has spent the past decade identifying practical ways technology can solve real consumer problems in the automotive space.

Recognized as the Winner of the Best Startup category at the BASA Awards®, Matt is leading a new wave of innovation focused on clarity, trust, and scale in vehicle diagnostics.

The BASA Awards caught up with Matt to discuss his journey, mindset, and vision for AutoMind.

Matt, what do you think is your greatest strength?

I would say it’s my ability to spot opportunities where others see obstacles. I have a natural instinct for recognizing how technology can improve industries and the drive to turn those insights into real, working solutions.

Who are some of the entrepreneurs you admire?

I really admire Charlie Mullins, Sir Richard Branson, and Lord Alan Sugar. They’re all genuine grafters who started with simple ideas and built extraordinary businesses.
Their journeys prove you don’t need privilege or complexity to succeed—just vision, resilience, and relentless drive. Each of them turned humble beginnings into lasting impact, showing that hard work and self-belief can take you anywhere.

How do you typically respond to change?

When change shows up, I immediately look for the opportunity it creates. That mindset has guided every step of my journey, from moving out of sales into automotive to building an AI-driven diagnostics platform with AutoMind. My approach is to start with curiosity and from there turn it into a plan by asking myself: what does this unlock, and how can we use it to serve people better? Armed with this attitude, change no longer knocks me off course; it sharpens my focus. This mindset has proved invaluable in tech, where adaptability isn’t optional but a competitive edge.

How do you manage your social media?

Short term, not very well. I tend to show up when there’s something big to talk about, like winning a BASA Award. That said, I do have a personal TikTok account with around 45,000 organic followers built around UK car and driver tips, which my team now posts to daily. Engagement has been strong, but I know consistency matters. As AutoMind scales, bringing in a dedicated social media specialist will be key to building long-term brand momentum.

What do you hope to achieve in your next business venture?

Honestly, I’m not focused on a “next” venture. My goal is to take AutoMind as far as it can possibly go. I see it as a long-term mission, not a stepping stone.
There’s still huge potential to unlock, from scaling across the UK to expanding globally. My focus is on building AutoMind into a world-leading platform that genuinely transforms how drivers understand and manage their vehicles. If I achieve that, there won’t be a need for a “next” role.
