HOW HUMAN RESOURCE PROFESSIONAL DAY CAME ABOUT
Governor-General Sir Patrick Allen referenced Human Resource Professional Day (H.R. Professional Day)in October 2013 as a day to recognize and celebrate human resource professionals who nurture and develop human capital to ensure that organizations flourish.
There are multiple tasks that H.R. professionals carry out in organizations that include; following important legislation, ensuring coworkers are paid, and organizing end-year fun parties in the company. The H.R. Professional Day came into the spotlight after Governor-General Hon Steadman Alvin Ridout Fuller 2018 declared it an official holiday in Jamaica.
H.R. Professional Day creates an opportunity to learn how H.R. improves employees' lives and allows people to join the industry. The day is also about thanking and appreciating the hard work that H.R. staff do as they handle the most difficult situations, including staff negotiations, corporate liaison, and interpretation of legislation.
FIVE TASKS H.R. PROFESSIONALS CARRY OUT
With a proper understanding of the organization's needs, H.R. professionals recruit the right people to meet those needs.
The Human Resources departments arrange interviews and recruit the right employees for the vacant positions in organizations.
H.R. professionals calculate employee working hours, taxes, expenses that should be reimbursed, salary increments, and bonuses.
To maintain a healthy working relationship between management and employees, the H.R. department must establish guidelines governing such relationships.
It is a requirement by statute that organizations maintain employee records.
