Coworking Day, celebrated annually on August 9th, aims to appreciate the achievements and encourage the concept of coworking around the globe. There is a clear difference between coworkers and coworking. A coworker is a person that works together with you in the same company or workplace. At the same time, coworking refers to a workspace where people from different workplaces work jointly to execute a given task or project.

HISTORICAL ACCOUNT OF COWORKING DAY

The concept of coworking is credited to Brad Neuberga, software engineer and owner of the Spiral Muse Coworking Group. It is argued that before his blog post, which he did on August 9th, 2005, about inviting free spirits and creatives to come together in the community, other cooperative spaces already existed for freelancers and entrepreneurs. However, it is generally agreed that the explicit use of the term 'coworking' and Neuberg's definition made the difference. The first instance of coworking dates back to 1995 when hackers in Berlin, the capital of Germany, created a 'hackerspace' to share thoughts and ideas among individuals of a similar mind, although the idea never got much recognition until after Neuberg's blog post in 2005. In 2010, Tony Bacigalupo, the co-founder of New York City's first dedicated coworking space, posted on his blog, saying, "Next Monday will be five years since Brad Neurberg first spoke about coworking. I think that should be the official Coworking Day." Coworking then gained international recognition, and the celebration of Coworking Day began and has been observed since August 9th every year. Coworking is cost-effective and comes with some advantages. Thus, it is the most preferred way of operating among business owners. Its benefits include excellent networking opportunities, increased productivity, creativity, and flexible growth.
